A new crop is sprouting up along the Toledo Region landscape. Wind turbines. Wind is a clean source of renewable energy, and operational costs are nearly zero once a turbine is erected. The Toledo Region will house more than 800 turbines to generate electricity for utilities and money for residents.
An intregal part of the National Gateway project developed by CSX is in the Toledo Region. The $175 million intermodal hub handles over 30 trains per day and moves close to two million containers and trailers per year. This terminal is one of the most environmentally friendly freight terminals in the country.
Photovoltaic (PV) solar modules provide an economic and environmental alternative to fossil-fuel dependency. 63% of PV solar manufacturers are located in the Toledo Region. The Toledo Zoo has the first SolarWalk and major solar array in the nation.
