Public, Private, Charter Schools

The Toledo Region includes 73 school districts. Performance report cards for the region’s schools show high marks overall—within Ohio and in comparison to the nation as a whole. Several school districts consistently score excellent or excellent with distinction, and some earn the highest marks in the state.

Public Schools

For 2010-2011, nine districts ranked Excellent with Distinction and 38 ranked Excellent.
The following were designated Excellent with Distinction:

Central Catholic High School and Notre Dame Academy are the only two schools in the Toledo Region to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
In the past three years, 21 percent of Maumee Valley Country Day School seniors received National Merit recognition (finalist, semifinalist or commended)—the highest percentage in northwest Ohio.

Nearly three dozen schools of higher education are located within 60 miles of Toledo equaling one of the highest such concentrations in the U.S.

The region’s approximately 100,000 undergraduate and graduate students pursue studies in a comprehensive selection of programs. Notably, the region ranks second in the number of students pursuing engineering degrees on a student-to-population basis.

Bowling Green State University and The University of Toledo are recognized Centers of Excellence by the Ohio Board of Regents for their research institutions and programs dedicated to the fields of Advanced Energy and Biomedicine and Healthcare.
Heidelberg is home to the renowned National Center for Water Quality Research.
University of Findlay and Bluffton University rank in the top tier of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” in the Midwest and UF was named a Best Midwestern College by the Princeton Review for the past five years.
Ohio Northern University’s on-campus housing derives 30 percent of its heating and cooling from geothermal technology and three new 400 kilowatt wind turbines.
The UT Colleges of Business & Innovation and Engineering were included in the U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges 2012 rankings in recognition of their online graduate programs.
